Twitter Allowing 10000 DM Characters

Twitter has officially announced that the 140 character limit on direct messaging has been lifted.

According to twitter “this is the number one request we get from folks. They want to be able to say what’s on the mind and be themselves”. The new limit for DM’s is now 10,000 characters. That should give twitter users more than enough characters to communicate directly and say exactly what they want to say and how they want to say it.

Twitter is always being niched or being short sweet and to the point. So it is yet to be seen if this is going to help our hurt twitter. Twitter might be going the way of Facebook to try to open up more communication between people and gain more followers. Warning more communication could potentially turn into more drama. The 140 character rules require a person to be very crafty with what they were saying and a lot of times less is better. Don’t worry if you are worried about getting overrun with lengthy DM’s. You can uncheck the box next to receive direct messages.

This could be a very interesting experiment for twitter in their efforts to keep up with Facebook. Hopefully with this change, the idea of new and better features i.e. video and picture uploads are in the works for the future. This should be a smart move for Twitter in this social media dominated world. Let us know what you think?
