As far as he can remember, he has always been moved by music. His peers has always been amazed at how he can easily recollect titles & artists and effortlessly put them together.
From an early age, he started out collecting albums on tapes and with the advent of CDs and DVDs his collection grew. Though JAZZ is his mainstream, he has no qualms in adding SOUL, FUNKY BLUES, ALTERNATIVE ROCK, HARD ROCK, METAL ROCK, HEAVY METAL, NEW WAVE, NEW AGE, TRANCE, ELECTRO, SWING and RHYTHM AND BLUES, to his collection. He would say that he is an artist in his own right.
It must run in his family, his grandfather, although a chef by profession, has played the sax. His father on the other hand played absolutely beautiful music with the strings and was a member of a band in his bachelor days. He has learned to play the guitar and piano by ear. But what really piqued his interest was mixing music from different genres. From his music library, he used to do his remixes using a 3-CD player mini component for family occasions and for whenever he and his peers would get together. And appreciation and enjoyment from his audience just gave him the satisfaction like no other.
In mid-2000 he met M-AUDIO TORQ EXPONENT and since it was not yet available in Dubai in those days, he purchased it over the internet. It came to him via USPS and the locals were just curious what this contraption was? The humble roots of his DJing career began. He had his equipment in one hand and the manual in the other…literally started from scratch, but as they say, “where there’s a will, there’s always a way.” He was given the chance to practice his newly learned skill during his annual leave where he played at a local club in Dumaguete.
Back in Dubai, Filipino DJs found common ground on Team PDDJs (Pinoy Digital DJs) webpage where he started out as a moderator and subsequently the administrator. As word got around, he soon found himself meeting up with show producers for local clubs and got shows alongside Filipino artists like Nina and Rufa Mae Quinto, to name a few. He met other local DJs as well and got to play in high-end clubs such as The Warehouse, Jules Bar, Chi the Lodge, and Catwalk.
With the enhancement of this skill in mind, he never turned down an opportunity to spin for a crowd. Not only does he perfect his skill in such events but he also gets to impart the inspiration that can only be derived from music. To borrow a classic quote: “For without the song and dance, what are we? So I say, thank you for the music, for giving it to me…”
