Foundation is improtant If You Build It, They Will Come

I love a good foundation. I love amusements parks! If there has been one built close to my location I am going to go. I love to go out and be around other people. I was too excited when the Epicentre in Charlotte was complete because that was another place for me and my friends to hang out. The Student Union on the campus of UNC-Charlotte? Perfect place to go study, get Starbucks, go to the movies, and other things. When they built Northlake Mall, I was too happy to have another mall close to me. When the newest leg of I-485 opened a few years ago, I was happy to be out of traffic on I-85. These are all built on a solid foundation.

  When you usually hear they statement that I have used as my topic, you think of these things: buildings, roads, amusement parks, and maybe some other things. However, have you really taken the chance to really think about how this effects you as a person? I'm pretty sure that has gotten the wheels in your brain turning and you are desperately trying to figure out what in the world I am talking about. Well, let me help you.

  You think that you are constantly being surrounded by negative people and you just wish that they would leave you alone so that you can grow your foundation. Well, are you building a negative foundation? If you are constantly in a bad mood and not really feeling like enjoying any of the positive aspects in life, then more than likely, those same type of people are going to hang out around you.

  On the other hand, if you are living a positive life and getting rid of the negativity that surrounds your being, then you are probably going to have positive people flock to you. Just because they want to be in your positive aura and foundation. Now positive people, not in any way am I telling you that everyday is going to be positive because we all have our moments. However, you have built a strong enough foundation to keep those consistently negative people away from you while you try to get back on track.

  What am I trying to say to you? Build a love foundation. Build a hope foundation. Build a happiness foundation. Build peace a foundation. Build a respect foundation. Build a kindness foundation. Build whatever other things you can think of that will be seen in a positive light. Then, once you have built it, share it. Let other people see that love, hope, happiness, peace, respect, and other things that you have built. Your creation is a work of art and should be shared.

  Build greatness! If you have already built something that is negative, tear it down and start over. You will be surprised at how many people leave you alone once they realize they cannot touch the great things that you have built around you. It all starts with a foundation. Whatever foundation you decide to build, know that those same people will come.

A Definition of Success

Here’s a short list of the characteristics of what I believe success isn’t and what I believe success is. Let’s start with what success is.

A Definition of Success:

1. Success is knowing that you did a great job when you close the door to your office at the end of each workday and head for home.

2. Success is having a home and people to love who love you in return.

3. Success is having the financial security to meet your obligations each month and the knowledge that you have provided that security for your family in the event of your demise.

4. Success is having the kind of faith that lets you know where to turn when there seems to be no place to turn.

5. Success is having an interest or hobby that gives you joy and peace.

6. Success is knowing who you are, and Whose you are.

7. Success is taking good care of you and waking up healthy each day.

8. Success is slipping under the covers at the end of the day and realizing with gratitude that, “It just doesn’t get much better than this!”

You see from this list that success is more than a one-sentence definition. Success involves the whole person, and if you skimp on one area, you will limit your success in others. Now, let’s take a look at what success isn’t.

What Success Isn’t:

1. Success isn’t missing dinner with the family several times a week because of working excessively.

2. Success isn’t rushing home from work and hiding out with the TV thinking, “After the day I’ve had, I need my space!”

3. Success isn’t about how to make more money when you already have more money than you can spend.

4. Success isn’t about going to church and ignoring everything you hear.

5. Success isn’t all work and no play.

6. Success isn’t about being so busy that you live on unhealthy fast food, served to you through little windows.

7. Success isn’t spending mental energy worrying about late projects, being home on time, your health, missing your child’s school play, being able to pay your bills, or finding joy in your life.

8. Success isn’t texting while you drive to catch up on your overloaded schedule.

Seven Formulas For Business Success

VISUALIZE YOUR GOALS There are seven formulas for business success. Number one, set a specific goal and visualize it as a reality. Play the picture of your goal as already realized on the screen of your mind over and over again. Number two, look for a problem you can solve with a product or service that is high quality and good value. All successful businesses are based on products or services that are high quality and good value. Number three, start small and learn your business thoroughly. Be patient. Invest time rather than a lot of money. BOOTSTRAP YOUR WAY TO SUCCESS One of the best ways to build a business is to start off on a bootstrap. This means that you start off with very little money and you grow your business with the money that you earn in the business, rather than outside financing, borrowing, loans from friends and so on. TEST, TEST, TEST Number four, test every major move before you invest in it. Test, test, test. Don't plunge into a business. Move ahead carefully, one step at a time. Number five, expand on the basis of your successes, out of your profits, as you move along. In other words, only expand your business on money that you've earned in the business, not on borrowed capital. PICK YOUR PEOPLE CAREFULLY Number six, carefully select the people to help you expand and grow. The biggest mistakes you'll ever make will be in picking the wrong people to work with, so be very, very careful in picking the people you're going to work with in your business. USE FINANCIAL LEVERAGE And number seven, use financial leverage. Financial leverage is business borrowing, lines of credit from the bank, which are based on the cash flow from your successful business. The whole aim of starting a business is to develop a consistent, predictable source of cash flow in excess of cost and expenses and then to hold on to the money. Banks will lend you all the money that you can service as debt with your cash flow. START OFF PART TIME One final thing that you can do, and I've recommended that many people do this over the years, is if you're starting off with no money, go to work part time for a business in a field that interests you. It's a valuable form of on-the-job training. Work evenings or work weekends. Or work on your holidays if you like. Sometimes a business that looks tremendous from the outside will look terrible once you start working for it. But sometimes when you start working for a business, you start to get an intimate understanding of how it works and you get insights on how you can improve it. LEARN WHAT YOU NEED TO LEARN Remember this, though: Most businesses fail because of managerial incompetence. So take the time to learn what you need to know to succeed. Be patient. The time you invest before you start will pay off over and over again in the months and years ahead. ACTION EXERCISES Here are two things you can do immediately to implement these formulas for business success: First, be prepared. The number one reason that people succeed in starting their own businesses is that they have the knowledge and experience, in advance, that they need to succeed. Do your homework. Second, start small. Some people think that they can be successful faster by putting all their savings at risk at the very beginning. The opposite is true.
