Amendment One Issue Creates 1st Admendment vs Benifits Challenge In NC

Amendment One Issue Creates 1st Admendment vs Benifits Challenge In NC. It's no secret I have a soft spot in my heart for North "Southern Church"Carolina. Last week was not pretty in the Old North State.

I grew up in North Carolina. I have a lot of friends who still live there. But this is one occasion I'm glad I don't live there and didn't have to vote. Judging from the fiery stream of Facebook posts that appeared in my newsfeed, Amendment One nearly tore the state apart. For those of you who somehow managed to miss this,

Amendment One

amends North Carolina's state constitution to define marriage solely as a union between a man and woman. Twenty-nine other states have adopted similar legislation—including Kansas where I live now, and Hawaii has given its legislature the power to limit marriage to heterosexual couples.

My faith precludes me from altering the Biblical definition of marriage. A reformed view of the Bible doesn't support homosexuality any more than it supports lying, cheating, adultery, murder, lust, or stealing. I couldn't vote against NC Amendment One and maintain a clear conscience and reverence for God. Nor could I vote against it and seriously support the First Amendment right of religious liberty. But I have gay friends who are dear to me. They are devastated by the passage of Amendment One. They feel the state has left them without any legal protection. They feel hated by their neighbors. How could I vote to pass something that hurts them?

I wonder. Might there have been a third option? One that respected the majority of voters' convictions by protecting the definition of marriage as between a man and a woman while at the same time acknowledging the status and needs of the minority? One that clearly defined marriage as heterosexual and also recognized same-sex unions as sanctioned by the state not the church?

This isn't a new idea. I don't know if it's the answer. Some will say a compromise takes it too far or not far enough. Criticize me all you want for not understanding the issue. I don't understand it fully. I can't. I've never been rejected, belittled, or discriminated against because of my sexual orientation. On the other hand, I've come awfully close to being ridiculed because of my faith when it comes to this issue. My heart aches when people who've been friends for years snipe at each other and kick civility to the curb. I'm troubled when normally quiet folks are bashed for respectfully speaking their opinions or the viewpoint of their churches. I bristle when pundits who live nowhere near the South declare it backwards and steeped in prejudice. I hurt when my friends hurt regardless of whether they are straight or gay.

The people of North Carolina followed the rule of law to approve Amendment One as it was presented to them by their elected representatives. I believe most of them did so with heavy hearts. There are citizens on both sides of the argument who harbor hate, prejudice, and fear. That's obvious from the things said and written about this issue. But the majority who approved Amendment One didn't vote out of hate for their fellow North Carolinians. They voted to protect the definition of marriage and the First Amendment right of religious expression.

Yes, I'm glad I didn't have to vote. It's easy to make sweeping statements from a few states away. It's much different when the controversy is in your own backyard and you're suddenly at odds with your neighbors and friends. The pastor reminded me from the pulpit this past Sunday that the Gospel message is one of Truth and Grace. I'm not sure what that looks like when it comes to Amendment One, but I believe there must be room for both Truth and Grace in how we deal with this issue going forward.

In his post "A Few Like You": Will the Church Be the Church for Homosexual Christians?, Wesley Hill quotes novelist Marilynne Robinson's challenging question: "Will people shelter and nourish and humanize one another?" Given the chance, given the example, given Truth and Grace, I believe they can. I hope and pray they will. questions to spark comments:

What do you think about Amendment One? If you live in North Carolina, how has this issue impacted you? How will you be an example of Truth and Grace?

Adriane Pointer Model From The US Marines Joins Vyzion Radio

Adriane Pointer is an American model and businesswoman.
Her potential was first discovered in 2008 when a woman by the name of Sherry Garland spotted her walking in a small town mall in Danville "Adriane"Virginia. Every year since Adriane's passion for the modeling industry has grown.

Aspiring Model Adriane Pointer, born Adriane Williams on December 18, 1988 in Danville Virginia was the daughter of a single parent household. Her mother, the late Pamela Beatrice Williams was as Adriane states "The best mother, Role Model and friend that any child could ever ask for." Struggling to provide for her & her older brother Jamie Williams alone, took a tremendous impact on Adriane as a child and an adolescent. "Seeing her cry herself to sleep most nights made me feel awful. She deserved so much more than she had, but she never complained. She just held it in to be strong for us. It made me want to do whatever i possibly could to make her proud...see her beautiful smile more often."

Adriane's mother passed away from a massive stroke on April 29, 2004 at the age of 46, when Adriane was only 15 years old. She described it as being the most horrific thing anyone can ever experience. Not only had she lost her mother, but she had also lost the best friend she ever had. "When my mom left, it seems as though my courage, self esteem & everything else left with her you know? I mean now who was going to wipe my tears when i feared, or when i was in pain? Who was gonna tell me I'm beautiful, or smart when others tried to convince me otherwise? Who was gonna be my rock now.?" Adriane's life quickly began to go in a downward spiral.

Adriane admits being somewhat of a "nerd" in Elementary and Middle School. "I was teased about any and everything you could think of. I was teased about my huge glasses that curled around my ears, and looked as if though were attached to my earrings, the "puff ball" hairstyle that i wore my hair in on a regular basis, the fact that i was so skinny and tall, and everything else. I was called names like Olive Oil, Betty Spaghetti, Motor Mouth and more. Yeah it hurt, but my mom was always there to tell me different, so what anyone else thought was irrelevant. I just ignored it" When Pointer attended George Washington High School however, she fell into a different way of handling those situations. Fighting, disrespecting teachers & expulsions were her new way of dealing with her anger. "Basically that was my cry for attention. I had dirt-low self esteem and no comfort. So i felt like i literally fight my feelings off"

In March of 2007 Adriane met a United States Marine by the name of Grant Pointer, whom later became her boyfriend, father of her daughter & now husband. "He was the most gorgeous man i had ever laid eyes on!" Grant began to give her the same compliments & encouragement she once received from her mother. Slowly her self esteem started to rebuild itself. "I definitely didn't have model confidence but just being able to feel pretty was enough for me" One day in the mall with a close friend Adriane was spotted from an Avon store by a woman by the name of Sherry Garland. "Excuse me!...Yes YOU! You are absolutely gorgeous! Are you a model?" Adriane looked at this woman as though she had the wrong person. "I conversed with her and she ended up giving me her number and ever since she has been like my mom. Between her, my husband & my daughter i have gained massive confidence." Indeed it has! Ever since Adriane has been pursuing her passion of modeling. Over the years she has submitted several applications to Americas Next Top Model, Ford Models, Elite Model Management & many more. In 2012 he has walked in the American Model Mall search Competition and was awarded a non-exclusive contract. Also in May of 2012, Adriane Joined an elite army of industry professionals by the name of Vyzion Entertainment. "Speaking with the founder of Vyzion, Mr. Greg bailey was awesome. I'm not gonna spill the details yet but I will assure you that there is a lot to be expected from me, now that i have joined the team, so look out for me!"

Adriane is well on her way to become the successful model she desires and definitely has enough confidence to show for it! Although she is 23, which is well beyond the cut off age for many of agencies, she is determined not to let anyone to set a limit on achieving her goals. Her dreams are to walk in the Victoria Secret Fashion Show and land the cover of many magazines & commercials. "I dunno, there may even be some acting in my future! Whatever i have to do to show other girls that no matter what is thrown your way, ANYTHING is possible" Adriane's role models include her mother of course, Supermodel Tyra Banks, Naomi Campbell, Salita Ebanks and America's Next Top Model, Cha Cha Diva Jaslene Gonzales. Her Favorite Artist is Chris "Breezy" Brown "I am definitely a member of Team Breezy! I admire everything about him. Its amazing to see someone climb the mountains that have been placed in his way and still achieved so much success. He an awesome person inside and out, hands down!" Adriane enjoys being photographed, studying he models handbook, spending time with her family & photo editing. "From now on im gonna enjoy my life. My mom would want me too be happy & live my life to the fullest so thats what I'm gonna do. and i'm still determined to make her proud. Watch out industry, I'm coming through!"

Karen Morrison Modeling's Future Star Joins Vyzion Radio

Karen Morrison, who is the ‘’new model to look out for’’, was born on March 5th 1989 in Charlotte North Carolina.
She was raised in a small country town called Mineral Springs, about thirty minutes outside of Charlotte. She attends Central Piedmont Community College where she plans to receive an associate’s degree and later transfer to a four year university to major in broadcast journalism. Karen started off as a ballet and tap dancer at the age of four until about ten years old and later became interested in modeling around the age of sixteen. She would attend local fashion shows and watch the models on the runway and it was then that she became interested and wanted to learn more about the industry. She admits that one of her biggest inspirations has been Tyra Banks because she has combined modeling, acting and television all into her career and she has made it work for her, and every day she rocks it out, with her personality, and her demeanor and her own since of style and creativity. Karen says that Tyra has made the fashion and modeling industry buzz for quite some time now.

At first she thought that modeling would be something fun to do on the side but she quickly learned that she could gain exposure and see how the industry really worked and possibly build a career. She has meet a countless number of amazing people who have watched her grow and encouraged her along the way. She watched other models, how they graced the runway and the covers of high fashion magazines, and wore the clothing. She often watched Americas Next Top Model for inspiration and she has even auditioned three times for the show. Karen knew that this was something that could really take her far and she could really make something out of it. She became very interested in the clothing the models wore, and how the fashion industry really worked as opposed to watching it play out on television. It was not until she was about eighteen years old that she became very serious about her modeling career and she wanted to take it to the next level. She wanted to be seen and showcase her talent to the world just like she had watched the models on the runways and the fashion shows that sparked her interest in the industry. She was offered several different contracts but she was first signed with an agency in Charlotte North Carolina called Evolution, in 2009, and later signed with Carolina Talent in 2011. She has been in several hair salon commercials and appeared in the 2010 bridal issue of Charlotte’s Elevate Lifestyle Magazine and played as an extra in the film ‘’Sleeping Around’’. She has also appeared in fashion shows for designers, students at the Art Institute and boutiques including Eye Candy and The Bridal Boutique.

She admits that the journey has been challenging because of her bow legs, which she later learned would be her greatest asset. ‘’The no’s that come along with this industry also make it that much harder’’, Karen said, but she admits that she will keep striving. She has plans of staring in films in the near feature and taking her talents to a national and international level and travel the world in hopes of encouraging and inspiring our models and models to be to keep the dream alive and never give up no matter what. Karen says that there are many obstacles that seem to follow you through your journey no matter what it is you are trying to accomplish. She says she has learned how to beat them and how to use the ‘’no’s’’ to her advantage, because if she would have given up when they told her she could not model then she would not be where she is today. Karen is represented by 26MGTM LLC.

International Runway Fashion Model Alva Page Joins Vyzion Models

International Runway Fashion Model Alva Page has had his figure on the pulse of all things beauty and fashion related for 15 years and counting.
International Runway Fashion Model Alva Page has done it all. He has contributed to such productions as Mercedes Benz "Alva Page"Fashion Week, Cayman Islands Fashion Solstice, Tim Johnson Productions, Banana Republic Fashion Show, TV Land’s “She’s Got the Look,” BET Rip the Runway and MTV Made just to name a few. Page’s models have gone on to work with such greats as Bramer Leon Stevens, Korto Momolu, Tracey Reese, Givenchy, Perry Ellis, and Valentino.

Alva never wanted to be a international model. His initial aspiration was to become an actor. 15 years ago a letter in the mail set a chain of events into motion that would prove to be the makings of International Fashion Model Coach Alva Page. The Letter was from John Casablanca, the Founder of the Elite Agency. In it, was an invitation for Alva to come to Florence South Carolina to audition to become a model. That invitation impacted A Page’s life. Page met with Trish Holms, the Director of Casablanca Center and was ultimately accepted to go be tested. After testing, which included a photo shoot and a monologue, Page was told that he did not belong in school. He was encouraged to jump start his career as oppose to taking a more traditional route. With a new confidence, Lake City South Carolina native, Alva Page embarked in a journey that would bring him as close to New York as he could get. North Carolina was the recipient of the man who would come to be known as International Runway Fashion Model Coach Alva Page

Page attended modeling conventions for the sole purpose of getting into the modeling network. It was at one of these conventions that Alva met Martin Snaric, the Prince of the Runway. Snaric has trained the likes of Elizabeth Taylor and Whoopi Goldberg on how to move in front of a camera. Under Snaric tutorage Page was mentored on how to train models. Page took what he learned and began training people who would not be traditionally thought of as a model. He fine tuned his concepts and before he knew it word got out and he was finally being paid for his craft. It was then that he took himself more seriously.

Some would say that being a part of the international beauty world has its share of ugly. An unsettling encounter between a model bound to a wheel chair and a casting director, viewed by Page, was the eye-opening experience that brought the purpose to Page’s mission. It was then that Page implemented the teachings of developing beauty from the inside out. Page trains all types of people in the art of self expression in the way they walk, sit and carry themselves. “Everyone is a model….even if they don’t know it. There is a certain amount of confidence that comes from knowing that you have entered a room with the strongest presence you can conjure up. I make it my business to make sure that people own each and every one of their steps and leave a lasting impression on the onlooker. Everyone has their insecurities about something. It is wrong for a person to be judged for something that they cannot change. Even if a model comes to a casting call and I have no place for them….there is a way to be kind with the truth.” Page said as he reflected on the memory.

When asked what his thoughts were on the current state of international fashion Page had this to say, “The world of fashion has come a long way, as it relates to what society perceives as beautiful. There was once a time, not so long ago, when the only people considered to be beautiful were a certain size or a certain color. With the change in times all types of people grace runways all over the world. Modeling in this day and age presents with some challenges as well. There is an infiltration of all types of people who use singing or acting as a gate way into modeling. That coin flips both ways. Look at the amount of singers or rappers who are now considered to be actors. This business is a fickle one. I constantly try to instill a desire to constantly redefine in models. The shelf like for most models is short. A model needs a backup plan…not because he or she expects to fail but because he or she knows that a career as a fashion model can be life-long or as fleeting as a blink. It is imperative that a model always knows what is next.”

With success comes some form of failure in most cases. When asked how he dealt with the constant judging and let downs Page recalled, “I remember being in New York. I had $2.00 to get back to Brooklyn. I heard this booming voice at a tent revival giving his testimony. I remember thinking to myself that the voice sounded like Donnie McKlurin. Low and behold it was him! I remember standing on the opposite side of the fence….hands clinching that wire as if it was the only thing holding me up. He was speaking on how he was trying to survive in this world. …..He said “God said don’t Give Up.” I remember it like it was yesterday. That was my turning point. It was as if I had been given a shot of drive and ambition and IU have never doubted this place that the journey is taking me.”

It is not a secret that traditional radio will soon be extinct in its current state. Traditional radio is often strong armed into playing the same songs over and over because of the corporate mandated system set in place. Essentially what that means is there are not many real DJ’s left in radio, but instead the local stations are filled with talk show hosts. This is a bad model because most people want to hear music and not talk. Vyzion Internet Radio is the answer to that problem. Vyzion Internet Radio provides 55 minutes of un-interrupted music before any commercial. Vyzion is run by DJ’s who know what the listeners like and really want to hear.

Vyzion expects to be a top leader in the Internet Radio market, but what makes them so unique is that the station is comprised of over 40 of the best DJ’s from all over the world spanning from Dubai, India, UK, Canada, NYC, Charlotte, Raleigh, LA, Atlanta and the list goes on. The global reach that Vyzion Internet Radio has is phenomenal. Vyzion runs a 24/7 Top40 playlist and it is essentially a party that never stops. Paired with his promotional work through Crooked Streetz Entertainment, his Bosstalk mixtape, Promobile Marketing group, and One Stop Entertainment Source (O.S.E.S), DJBooman himself could be called a “one stop entertainment source”.

And all the while, he holds it down through Club tracks, a hip-hop production career (the Baltimore City Paper named him “Best Beatmaker” in 2008), and pioneering Club/rap hybrids with local legends like Mullyman (“Party Walk”, “Bmore Go Harder”) and the supergroup of the 410 Pharaohs (Booman, Jimmy Jones, Labtekwon). The 410 Pharoahs’ 2008 album 410 Funk won “Best Local Album” in the City Paper (that’s two awards for Booman last year if you’re counting) and received positive press in XLR8R and numerous House and dance music websites. 2008 Booman partnered with Baltimore powerhouse DJ Excel to become VP of Bmoreoriginal Records, the two have elevated the club music genre to incredible heights through their groundbreaking internet site www.bmoreclub.com

2011 is shaping up to be an equally fruitful year for DJ Booman as he remains ever-present, through production on Mullyman’s “Bmore Go Harder” and "she hurtin em" which has videos by noted artist and video director Tabi Bonney as well as videos by famed director Grench, all of which have seen rotation on MTV networks, Booman recently contributed 6 tracks on Mullyman’s new collaborative cd with G_Unit’s DJ Woo Kid and is in the studio working on Jeff Miranda’s (Snookie’s boyfriend from Jersey Shore) new CD. Catch booman mixing live on his radio shows for 88.9 FM Baltimore (Strictly Hip Hop) Friday Nights, 1620 AM New Jersey (mix1620.com HD) Saturday Nights and in clubs all around the country. Booman was also nominated “internet dj of the year” by IDJawards.com so as you can see the grind never stops.
